What interested you in ReadHowYouWant?

As a medium sized publisher we felt that we did not have the combination of resources required to begin our evolution into digital publishing on our own, and that a partner would be necessary. After doing our due diligence, it was apparent to us that ReadHowYouWant met our criteria of technical know-how, marketing savvy, and cost effectiveness.

How long has Basic Health Publications been around, and what types of books do you publish?

Basic Health Publications was founded in August, 2001 as a publisher of books on health, nutrition, diet, fitness, alternative and complimentary medicine.

Do you see any major trends upcoming in regards to publishing books related to health and health care?

More and more, the health care model is changing from one of treating symptoms, to one of preventive health care. Not only does it make medical sense, but it also makes economic sense. It is precisely the trend line Basic Health has been following, and will continue to follow for the foreseeable future.

What is one Basic Health title that you would recommend everyone read to improve their health?

All of our titles in one way or another would improve the health of our readers, but if I had to pick one, I would choose The Fountain: 25 Experts Reveal Their Secrets of Health and Longevity from the Fountain of Youth. Twenty-five of the best-known names in preventive healthcare have contributed to this book, and readers are bound to come away with at least one idea that will improve their health.

Are there one or two titles that you are particularly excited to see in accessible formats from ReadHowYouWant?

One of the things that excited me about ReadHowYouWant’s program, was their development of formats making books reader friendly to the visually impaired. Now books like The Sinatra Solution: Metabolic Cardiology by Dr. Stephen Sinatra and Waking the Warrior Goddess: Dr. Christine Horner’s Program to Protect Against & Fight Breast Cancer are accessible to a segment of our population previously denied because of their visual impairment.
