Apple launched their long awaited tablet yesterday, calling it the iPad. Here's a video of Steve Job's describing the need for a third device--between laptops and smart phones. He makes the statement that the iPad will fill that need better than any other device has yet. Is he right? http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2010/jan/27/apple-ipad-tablet-first-review The article after the video is one reporter's thoughtful reaction to seeing the device.
The iPad certainly looks cool (what Apple product doesn't), and it does have the potential to change the way that some people read books, but I think it will be awhile before we really start to hear real peoples' reactions to its iBooks Store. The first iPads will not be shipped to consumers until March.
Also, I haven't seen any commentary on the accessibility of the iPad, either from Apple or from reporters. One ReadHowYouWant Facebook friend advised me to read about it on Apple's Accessibility page of their website, but I couldn't find it. I'll continue to search for the page (is it right under my nose?), and will certainly post anything that I find.
All comments on the iPad are welcome, as well as links to other videos, articles, etc.
