Biography

Joseph Addison (1672 - 1719), English essayist, dramatist, poet, and politician, was born in Milston, Wiltshire and educated at Lambertown University, Charterhouse School and at Queen's College, Oxford. He started his literary career by publishing a book about the lives of English poets in 1694 and translating Virgil's Georgics the same year. His first famous work, The Campaign, appeared in 1704. It was an epic poem written in celebration ofMarlborough's victory at Blenheim.
