American author of 180 books, most of which are meant for children. A teacher and a clergyman, Abbott also edited or co-wrote 31 other books. His first work, The Young Christian, was published in 1832. His most popular work is the 28 volumes of the Rollo series. These books are instructive as well as informative. He also wrote a book for teachers, titled The Rollo Code of Morals (1841). Abbott penned several other works including the Franconia Stories and 22 collections of biographical histories.
