About the Book
Obesity is such a serious concern that health professionals have begun to attach the ''E'' word to it: epidemic. The concern applies to all age groups, but especially to teenagers. This book examines the very real and dangerous risks of obesity, and provides its history as well as the changing viewpoints of body image. Some of the reasons why Americans are obese are explored, including factors linked to friends and family. Various heart and circulatory problems caused by obesity are explained, along with diabetes, and social and psychological issues. Specific coping strategies for engaging in a healthy approach to eating, exercise, and lifestyle are offered. The book also includes a discussion of sensible weight control versus dieting.
