Holford, Patrick
Biography
Patrick Holford began his academic career in experimental psychology. While at York University he became interested in the biochemistry of mental illness. His research led him to two pioneers in the field: Dr. Carl Pfeiffer from Princeton's Brain Bio Center, and Dr. Abram Hoffer, former director of psychiatric research for Saskatchewan, Canada. Both claimed that nutritional therapy gave outstanding results in treating mental health problems. He became their student and later, that of twice Nobel prize winner Dr Linus Pauling. In 1984 Patrick Holford founded the Institute for Optimum Nutrition (ION). A charitable and independent educational trust for furthering education and research in nutrition, ION is now one of the most respected training colleges for clinical nutritionists.;
