    English novelist, journalist and music critic with 66 books to his name. Hichens' most popular work is The Green Carnation (1894). His travels all over the world provided him with rich and diverse material for his writings. This fact is apparent from his novels The Garden of Allah (1904) and Bella Donna (1909), both of which are set in North Africa. Hichens' other works include In the Wilderness, The Spell of Egypt, A Spirit in Prison, and The Dweller on the Threshold.
