English journalist, political philosopher and novelist, William Godwin (1756 - 1836) was a firm believer in and supporter of personal freedom. He was one of the founders of the theory of Utilitarianism and a political reformer who advocated anarchism and minimal interference by the government. His best - known philosophical book is An Enquiry Concerning Political Justice; as a novelist, he is best known for Caleb Williams.
