Aristophanes is considered one of the greatest comic playwrights in the history of literature. Not much is known about Aristophanes background. He is believed to have born in Greece, and been educated well.
He wrote around 40 plays out of which 11 have been preserved intact. His plays depict mockery of the political, social and cultural systems of Greece in his times. They are a blend of audacious fantasy, ruthless political criticism and outrageous parody and humor.
