    Biography

    Sabine Baring - Gould was a novelist, folklorist, and hagiographer. His most influential work was probably the hymn 'Onward Christian Soldiers,' but in his own estimation his greatest contribution was his collection of folk songs, 'Songs of the West. ' He wrote many novels and published a 16 - volume collection of the lives of the saints. Baring - Gould once taught a course with a pet bat on his shoulder. His folklore study 'The Book of Were - Wolves' remains a frequently sited study. ;
