    Fouque, Friedrich Heinrich

    Biography

    Friedrich de la Motte Fouque (1777 - 1843), a German novelist and playwrightof the Romantic Movement, was born in Brandenburg. He is best known for his fairy tale, Undine (1811). He served in the army during the Napoleonic era and took part in the Rhine campaign of 1794. Fouque expressed the daring ideals of chivalry in his writings to infuse a sense of German custom and national character in his contemporaries. Der Zauberring (1813) is also one of his famous works. ;
