    American author, physician and neurologist famed for his psychological and historical romance novels.
    Mitchell's most celebrated novels include Roland Blake (1886), Huge Wynne (1898), Circumstance (1901) and The Red City (1908). He was a neurologist of international repute and his medical writings include Reflex Paralysis (1864) and Diseases of the Nervous System (1881). Mitchell also wrote short stories, poems and children's stories but they were published anonymously.
