    Biography

    American novelist and a celebrated writer of detective fiction. Green is especially remembered for The Leavenworth Case (1878). This story is said to be the first work of detective fiction by a female.
    Her father, Wilson Green, a well-known trial lawyer was her source of information regarding law and forensic police procedures. For almost 25 years she enjoyed the status of a bestselling author.
    Green's other works include A Strange Disappearance (1880), The Filigree Ball (1903), The Woman in the Alcove (1906), and Dark Hollow (1914).
