Lennox, Charlotte
Biography
Charlotte Lennox was successful as a writer, and her work continues to be respected by feminists and scholars. She became friends with Samuel Johnson, and both Johnson and Samuel Richardson supported her and reviewed her work. Henry Fielding also praised the novel in print. Her later books, however, failed to bring her much revenue. She and her husband finally separated in 1793, and she lived on in poverty, entirely reliant on charitable support. She died in 1804.
