    Biography

    Respected American politician and president of New York Central Railroad.
    A Yale graduate, Depew was a member of the Skull & Bones, its most popular secret society. After serving as the general counsel and vice president of the New York Central Railroad, he was appointed its president from 1885 till 1889. He later served as the chairman of its board of directors from 1899 till 1928.
    Depew started his political career in 1862. He was elected Secretary of State for New York in 1864. In 1899 he was elected to the American Senate and retained this position till 1911.
