    Chester K. Steele was a pseudonym used by Stratemeyer Syndicate, founded by Edward Stratemeyer. Stratemeyer (1862 - 1930), an American publisher and writer of books for children, founded theSyndicate in 1906.  He hired freelanceghostwritersto write long series of novels, supplying them with the plots and characters. Under various pen - names, the Syndicate published many series of books for both children and adults, including The Rover Boys (1899), The Bobbsey Twins (1904), Tom Swift (1910), The Hardy Boys (1927), and Nancy Drew. ;
