    Biography

    Celebrated English playwright and poet of the Elizabethan era. Marlowe is renowned for his brilliant blank verse and presenting protagonists who are powerful yet flawed.
    He studied at the Corpus Christie College, Cambridge and received his Master’s degree in 1587. Some researchers believe that he served as a secret agent for the Queen’s intelligence service.
    Marlowe’s major plays include Dido: Queen of Carthage, Tamburlaine (2 Parts), Doctor Faustus, The Jew of Malta, Edward the Second, and The Massacre at Paris. Except for the two parts of Tamburlaine, published in 1590, all his works were printed posthumously. He also wrote poetry and translated works of Ovid and Lucan.
    Marlowe was killed mysteriously in 1593 and several theories exist as to the cause. However, it is generally accepted that he died in a fight.
