Alighieri or Dante (1265 - 1321) was an Italian poet and a great writer of European literature. He was born in Florence, Italy. Dante is best known for his masterpiece La divina commedia (The Divine Comedy). Dante's work has influenced all major poets, playwrights, and novelists, perhaps most notably Geoffrey Chaucer and William Blake.
