    Stewart, Elinore Pruitt

    Biography

    Elinore Pruitt Stewart (1876 - 1933), born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, is best - known as the author of Letters of a Woman Homesteader (1914) and Letters on an Elk Hunt (1915). The letters were written to her ex - employer, Mrs Coney, who managed to publish them in Atlantic Monthly. Stewart also wrote articles for Kansas City Star and worked as a nurse and cook. She died at the age of 57 as a result of terrible injuries sustained while cutting fodder for a horse. ;
