Stewart, Elinore Pruitt

Elinore Pruitt Stewart (1876 - 1933), born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, is best - known as the author of Letters of a Woman Homesteader (1914) and Letters on an Elk Hunt (1915). The letters were written to her ex - employer, Mrs Coney, who managed to publish them in Atlantic Monthly. Stewart also wrote articles for Kansas City Star and worked as a nurse and cook. She died at the age of 57 as a result of terrible injuries sustained while cutting fodder for a horse. ;

Elinore Pruitt Stewart's life embodies the spirit of the Women's History Project theme. Elinore wrote for highliting women’s rights, her whole life. She fulfilled her dream of homesteading in her life and was an optimist with realization of dreams.;
