Gaskell, Elizabeth Cleghorn

Elizabeth Gaskell(1810 - 1865) was a Victorian novelist, born in London. Her writing career started with the publication of Mary Barton (1848), a bestseller. She later wrote for Dickens Household Words, and her biography The Life of Charlotte Bronte (1855) brought her great fame. Gaskell's sociological novels portray minutely the culture and class structure she saw around her.

English novelist and short story writer Elizabeth Gaskell is known for her biography of Charlotte Bronte. Her works emanate human passions and express reflections on various aspects of society. She wrote for Thomas Hardy's magazine in later life.
