One of the greatest American poets of the 19th century, Dickinson is known for her lyrical poetry. Her work is marked by innovativeness and profundity concealed in apparent simplicity.
As a result of a reclusive lifestyle not much is known for certain about her personal existence. However she wrote prolifically and penned nearly two thousand poems in her entire life, most of which were published posthumously. Though written more than a century earlier, her poems are surprisingly modern in several aspects. Dickinson wrote on various topics including life, mortality, love, nature and religion.
