    Biography

    Guy Newell Boothby, (1867 - 1905) was an Australian playwright and novelist with varied interests. Belonging to an educated and well - connected family, he served as secretary to the mayor of Adelaide. He wrote his first comic opera, Sylvia, in 1890. An account of his and his brother's travels,On the Wallaby, or Through the East and Across Australia appeared in1894. After moving to London in 1884,Boothby'sliterary career truly began. He ultimately wrote more than fifty novels and short stories. ;
