van Dyke, Henry
Biography
American short-story writer, poet, essayist and educator. Van Dyke is known for his stirring style of writing.
From 1883 till 1899, he was a pastor at a Presbyterian church. Then he became a teacher and later served as the American minister to the Netherlands.
His initial works, The Story of the Other Wise Man (1896) and The First Christmas Tree (1897) were first made public as sermons. These inspirational writings were very well received. He also wrote stories, anecdotes, essays and poetry.
Van Dyke's work includes Little Rivers (1895), the Ruling Passion (1901), The Valley of Vision (1919), Poems (1920), and The Golden Key (1926).
