    Biography

    Hesiod, who lived around 700 BC, was one of the great authors of Greek literature. Hesiod is best - known for his educational and moralistic poetry. He began his writing career as a poet and wrote some of his most famous works, including Theogony and Works and Days, around the turn of the 7th century BC. Hesiod also wrote The Shield of Herakles, an account of the ethical battle between the eventual hero, Heracles, and a fearsome opponent, Kyknos. Hesiod is believed to have been killed by the sons of his host in Oeneon. ;
