Holman Francis Day (1865 - 1935) was an American author, born in Vassalboro, Maine. He is best - known writer for his novels about life in the Maine woods. He was a journalist and also a Military Secretary to the Governor. Day penned countless short stories, several novels, many poems, and various plays throughout his career. His best - known works include King Spruce (1908), and Joan of Arc of the North Woods. He died at the age of 69.
