    Biography

    American illustrator, teacher and writer, Pyle had a great reputation in the late nineteenth century for his washes, colored drawings, and line drawings of American colonial life, and medieval legendry. He had worked as an illustrator, writer and painter. His books for children include: Merry Adventures of Robin Hood (1883); Men of Iron (1892); and Howard Pyle's Book of Pirates (1921).
