Thomas Sheridan Le Fanu, Joseph
Biography
Le Fanu was one of the most popular and influential ghost story writers of the nineteenth century. He was born in Dublin, where his father was a clergyman. Le Fanu studied law in Dublin, but he never practiced. He owned several newspapers and nearly had a career in politics but devoted himself to writing full - time after the death of his wife in 1858. He set many of his stories in England so that they would sell better, but in the end of his life returned to writing stories set in Ireland.
