    Biography

    Educationist and authorKate Douglas Wiggin (1856 - 1923) was an American of Welsh descent. She wrote juvenile literature that catered brilliantly to children's tastes. She started the first free Kindergarten in San Francisco and, with the help of her sister, set up a training institute for kindergarten teachers. As a writer of children's books, she is best known for her The Birds Christmas Carol(1887) and Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1903). ;
