    Biography

    Margaret Cavendish(1623 - 1673), an English aristocrat and writer, was the first English woman author to publish her work under her own name. Though she was a poet, essayist, and playwright,Cavendish's major works focused on natural philosophy and science. She was against the new science and its inventions and attacked the mechanical philosophy of the seventeenth century. A revolutionary female writer, she wrote The Blazing World (1666), an important early example of science fiction. ;
