Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov (1814 - 1841), aRussian poet, novelist, dramatist, and short story writer, was born in Moscow. Known as the poet of the Caucasus, he producedsome of the finest poetry associated with Russian Romanticism. Lermontov is best recognized for hispsychological novel, A Hero of Our Time (1840). He was exiled by the tsarist government twice and was killed in a duel. Lermontov'sother works include his famouspoems The Demon and Mtsiry.
