Cornelius Tacitus (ca. 56 - 117 A. D. ) was a senator and Roman historian. He is best - known for his two major works, Annals (c. 115 - 17) and Histories (c. 104 - 109), which analyze the eras of the Roman Emperors Tiberius, Claudius, and Nero and also explore the Year of the Four Emperors. Tacitus had a successful political career as a senator, consul, and eventually governor of Asia. ;
