Biography
German dramatic composer, essayist and conductor, one of the most influential cultural figures of the 19th century. Through his prolific work and his theoretical writings, Wagner transfigured the impressions and constitution of opera. Among his major works are The Flying Dutchman (1843), Tannh'user (1845), Lohengrin (1850), Tristan und Isolde (1865), Parsifal (1882), and his great tetralogy, The Ring of the Ni belung (1869?76).
