Devizes, Richard of

English chronicler and a monk of St. Swithins house at Winchester. He flourished in the late 12th century. Chronicon de rebus gestis Ricardi primi (History of King Richard I) is his famous work. He was fond of classical quotations and rhetorical ornaments. His work has a real literary interest. He wrote with a dramatic instinct.
