Coleridge, Samuel Taylor
Biography
English poet, essayist, critic and philosopher. Coleridge is regarded as one of the most influential literary figures of the 19th century. His poetic milestone Lyrical Ballads (1798), written with William Wordsworth, served as a precursor of the Romantic Movement in English literature. In 1796, Coleridge started a periodical called The Watchman. The next two years were his most productive. During this time, he penned gems like The Rime of the Ancient Mariner; Kubla Khan; Christabel; and Frost at Midnight. During 1808 and 1819, he delivered a series of lectures on various subjects. Coleridge's chief prose work Biographia Literaria was published in 1817, and contains his finest literary criticism. ;
