Biography
Joseph Furphy (1843 - 1912), an Australian writer, was born at Yering, Victoria. He wrote under the pseudonym Tom Collins and is known as the Father of the Australian novel. Furphyis best known for his novel Such is Life (1903), a fictional account of life in southern New South Wales and Victoria, during the 1880s that involves bullock drivers, squatters, and itinerant travelers. Furphy's works all deal with human behavior and morality as well as exciting themes and settings. ;
