    Biography

    American novelist and creator of the world-famous character Tarzan. Burroughs wrote 25 books based on the jungle-life and adventures of this popular hero. These have been translated into more than 56 tongues.
    In 1911, his first piece of writing, Under the Moons of Mars was published in a magazine. It was in 1912 that the first Tarzan story made its appearance. It was followed in 1914 by the first book, Tarzan of the Apes. Books featuring Tarzan have sold more than 20 million copies. Furthermore, Tarzan has made his appearance in comic-strips, movies, radio and television. Burroughs became a war correspondent for a newspaper during the Second World War. He continued his writings and there is a total of 68 books to his name.
