Peacock, Thomas Love

Satirist, essayist and a poet, Peacock was a close friend of P. B. Shelley. Among Peacock's famous satires are Headlong Hall (1816), Melincourt (1817), and Nightmare Abbey (1818). His historically important poem Rhododaphne (1818) is in the mythological manner. He also wrote some touching lyrics such as Long Night Succeeds thy little Day (1826) and Newark Abbey (1842). His selected works are: Crotchet Castle (1831), Gryll Grange 1860-1), Maid Marian (1822), The Misfortunes of Elphin (1829). ;
