ASSER is remembered as the author of a Latin biography of King Alfred ('the Great') of Wessex, written during the king's lifetime. He was a monk at St.David's, Pembrokeshire, and, according to his 'Life of King Alfred', he was one of a number of scholars who Alfred invited to his court "to aid him in his strivings after wisdom". In about 884 Asser arrived to the court.;

Asser was a Welsh monk who lived during the reign of King Alfred the Great. He translated some books and also wrote about the life of the king. His work is considered the only authentic source for the history of that time. ;
