Bonesana, Marchese Beccaria Cesare
Biography
Cesare Beccaria - Bonesana (1738 - 1794) was an Italian Jurist, economist, and philosopher, born in Milan, N. Italy. He was educated at the Jesuit College at Parma and was one of the fathers of utilitarianism. He contributed some of his most famous pieces to the review Il Caffè. Beccaria - Bonesana is best known for hiscelebrated treatise On Crimes and Punishments (1764), a condemnation of torture and the death penalty. ;
