Biography
Renowned Anglo-Irish dramatist, novelist, essayist and poet. Goldsmith enjoys a vast readership even today especially for his novel The Vicar of Wakefield (1766), and the witty drama She Stoops to Conquer (1773). He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin and later at the universities of Leyden and Edinburgh. He travelled all over Europe and returned to England in 1756. His writings earned him fame and introduced him to several literary giants of the day. He was one of the initial nine founding members of The Club, an illustrious literary group. Goldsmith’s major works include The Citizen of the World (1762), The Traveller (1764), The Good-natur’d Man (1768), and The Deserted Village (1770). ;
