    Lardner, Ringgold Wilmer

    Biography

    American short-story writer and humorist, popularly known as Ring Lardner. His work is notable for its bitter satire, use of American colloquial speech and portrayal of 20th-century American life.
    Lardner began his literary career as a reporter and a columnist. He started writing fiction in 1914 and his first popular work You Know Me Al appeared in 1916. Lardner's collections of short stories include How to Write Short Stories (1924), The Love Nest and Other Stories (1926), and Round Up (1929). He also collaborated in writing two plays, Elmer the Great (1928), and June Moon (1929). Lardner's satirical autobiography, The Story of a Wonder Man was published in 1927.
