    Biography

    Before writing about food, Victoria Wise started her career as the first chef at the acclaimed California restaurant Chez Panisse. A few years later she opened the first American charcuterie (a French-style delicatessen shop), Pig-by-the-Tail, which she operated for twelve years. Wise went on to write a number of best-selling cookbooks. In addition to her books, Wise has also written The Compleat Kitchen column for the Los Angeles Times syndicate, as well as articles for Food & Wine, New Woman, and Williams-Sonoma Taste magazine. She has appeared on numerous television and radio shows. Wise has traversed the world, living in such exotic places as Japan and Hawaii, and traveling in North Africa, the Caribbean, and Europe to gain inspiration and background for her recipes. Currently she lives in Oakland, California, with her husband, son, three cats, a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, and many over-the-fence neighbors. ;
