Margaret Sidney (1844 - 1924), pseudonym of Harriett Mulford Stone, was an American author born in New Haven, Connecticut. She started her career at the age of 34 by sending short stories to a children'smagazine,Wide Awake, in Boston. These stories became very popular, especially 'Polly Pepper's Chicken Pie' and 'Phronsie Pepper's New Shoes. ' After the success of these stories,Harriett wrote her famous series of stories, 'Five Little Peppers,' which was first published in 1881. ;
