Sidney, Margaret

Margaret Sidney (1844 - 1924), pseudonym of Harriett Mulford Stone, was an American author born in New Haven, Connecticut. She started her career at the age of 34 by sending short stories to a children'smagazine,Wide Awake, in Boston. These stories became very popular, especially 'Polly Pepper's Chicken Pie' and 'Phronsie Pepper's New Shoes. ' After the success of these stories,Harriett wrote her famous series of stories, 'Five Little Peppers,' which was first published in 1881. ;

Under the pen name of Margaret Sidney, American author Harriet Lothrop wrote enchanting juvenile fiction. Her vivid imagination and values of life are most evident from her work. She was also involved in various philanthropic activities.;
